There are numerous extra activities you may take part in this summer when your children are out of school. Before getting started with your summer schedule, you may want to review your California insurance. Here are some of the summer activities that might warrant a review of coverage.

  • Are you planning to install a swimming pool? Doing so may increase the risk of guests being injured at your home, thereby increasing the risk you’ll need to call on the liability coverage in your home insurance. When something increases risk, you need to advise your insurer and make yourself aware of any insurance implications.
  • Will you be taking a vacation? Unoccupied homes are typically at an increased risk of theft, vandalism, fire, and water damage. Many home insurance policies have a vacant property clause that affects coverage if a home is vacant for a certain period of time. The last thing you would want to discover if your home was damaged or broken into during your vacation is that it wasn’t covered so be sure to clarify the policy conditions and take steps to ensure continuity of insurance.

Even with a neighbor checking on your house frequently, it’s still a good idea to double check the amount of coverage you have for fire, theft and other property damage before you leave. Your California insurance agent should be happy to advise you as to whether or not you have all the financial protection you need for the summer activities you have planned.*
