Who isn’t interested in saving money on their auto insurance? We know that every dollar counts, especially these days. You’re required by law to have auto insurance if you’re out on the road, but there might be ways that you could lower your premium while still keeping the coverage you need. Take a look at 5 ways you can safely save on your California auto insurance.

GET QUOTES FROM MULTIPLE COMPANIES: Too many consumers don’t take advantage of the competition among insurers for policies. Our agents are able to give you quotes for more than one company – ask to get comparison quotes for other carriers we write with. Once you have a policy in force, it’s easy to go on “auto” pilot and miss out on other good companies that may be able to beat your current rate for equivalent coverage.

ASK FOR DISCOUNTS: Discounts can lower rates for good students, mature drivers who’ve completed the required course, people who haven’t had tickets in the past few years, and people who work for certain companies or are members of professional or alumni associations. Your agent can review with you what discounts are already applied to your policy and see if there are any that can be added.

AVOID EXTRA FEES: If you can afford to pay your premium upfront, you could save on administrative fees that are typically charged for monthly or installment payments. Some companies charge as much as a $10 service fee for installment payments. If you can’t afford to pay your policy in full at renewal, consider switching to monthly automatic deduction – the service fee is less.

INCREASE YOUR DEDUCTIBLE: This is a particularly good option for people who don’t drive a lot and are good, defensive drivers. If your deductible is low, consider increasing it to a higher one and you’ll find your premiums will decrease. But you should only do this if it’s reasonable for your situation– never choose a deductible that is more than you can afford to pay.

BUNDLE YOUR POLICIES: Having both your auto and home (or condo or renter’s!) with the same company almost always works to your advantage, most companies offer a multi-policy discount to reward customers for having more than one type of policy in force. If your auto and home insurance are currently with separate companies, ask for quotes with each and see how they compare.
